27th Istanbul Film Festival Coming Up

This year’s film festival will feature 200 films from world cinema. There will also be concerts and workshops

Between 5 and 20 April, the 27th Istanbul Film Festival will take place. Organised by the Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation (IKSV) and sponsored by Akbank, the festival offers a total of 200 films to Istanbul viewers.

The first film is a long film from Lebanese actress Nadine Labaki, called “Caramel.” It tells the story of five women in Beirut and the difficulties of being women in a men’s world.

The last film in the programme is a British production, directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Natalie Portman , Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana: “The Other Boleyn Girl.” The film focuses on the sisters Anne and Mary Boleyn, one of whom becomes the wife and one the mistress of Henry VIII.

This year, twelve films will compete for the “Golden Tulip,” awarded by a jury led by famous visual director Michael Ballhaus. Among the nominated films are two by directors from Turkey: The “Egg” film directed by Semih Kaplanoglu, and the “Hidden Faces” film by Handan Ipekci.

Films from Turkey in general, and daytime screenings of all films cost 3.50 YTL, while the regular price without discount is 10 YTL. Galas cost up to 15 YTL.
